  • Charming small, vintage Turkoman oval pendant with granulation and red glass.
  • Only one available. 40mm wide by 28 tall
  • Three loops for hanging dangles at the bottom and two at the top for suspending the pendant in a necklace or on a chain.
  • The red glass center might have been preferred, over the traditional carnelian, by the Turkoman women. It's made of high quality silver and carefully embellished with tiny granulation
  • Turkoman jewelry is usually characterized by its large scale, the use of fire-gilding on silver, granulation, and/or sinuous lines full of meaning to those who have studied the culture. Traditionally only carnelian stones were used (later sometimes replaced by red glass), but now lapis lazuli, as well as some black onyx and even turquoise are incorporated, mostly for export.
  • The nomadic Turkoman people have traditionally migrated throughout Central Asia, Iran and Afghanistan since the 11th century, finding new grazing for their herds of goats, sheep, horses and camels.  They are known for their carpet making skills, and fabulous jewelry for humans and animals. Today many have settled and become farmers in Turkmenistan, but other groups try to maintain their nomadic lifestyle.
