Large antique Turkoman Teke necklace centerpiece and clasp 10.5 x 7 inches
These two diamond-shaped components connected the two sides of necklaces consisting of linked components that extended from the shoulders to the front of the waist where this massive clasp (capaz) linked them.
They are covered with auspicious engraved symbols relating to fertility, rows of stylized rams horns along the top edges, and studded with antique "eye" cut carnelians that have been believed for millennia to protect from bleeding, wounds and miscarriages.
This is a seriously collectible piece that could be wall mounted, but it could also be worn together or integrated into two necklaces. In fact the two parts of these clasps are often sold separately as pendants, but I wanted to keep this one together.
I can also image it as a wonderful adornment sewn onto the front of a black wool jacket or coat for example. Much Turkoman jewelry was originally sewn to clothing so it would be a way of bringing this piece full circle into a new life.
