Kingman Mine flat, center drilled nuggets, like "chips" but smooth, 8-10mm diameter, on 16-inch strands
Bright blue with dark matrix
Kingman mine in Arizona is both the oldest known turquoise mine in the US and one of the most prolific although it produces very little today. During its heyday in the early 1970s it produced over 80,000 pounds in one year alone.
Most famous for its bright blue stones, the mine is also the source of other turquoise colors.
Modern mining methods that employ explosives to break up the rock leave soft turquoise full of micro-cracks that need to be sealed with resin so they can be cut and drilled without crumbling. These like all new turquoise, have been "stabilized", but they are guaranteed to have no color added.
