Named for their white core covered by a thin layer of translucent red glass, WhIte Hearts were traded from Europe to every continent, and known variously asCornaline d'Aleppofor their resemblance to carnelian beads coming east from India through Syria and Turkey orHudson Bay Beadsbecause early settlers in that area traded them to Native Americans for fur pelts.
They may be the only beads created during the era of great exploration and trade that are still being produced and traded today.
