More saturated deep blue/green color than most north African Amazonite, this bead was part of a set of 3 bought in Essaouira, Morocco this year.
Amazonite has been treasured since ancient times in Mauritania and Morocco
It has been found at a Mauritanian site, Dhar Tichitt, that dates to as early as
2500 BC
It's quite rare in Morocco these days and sold by the gram at prices higher than silver and even some coral. These beads are vintage, possibly antique, but not ancient because the perforations have clearly been made by metal drills
