  • Royal blue natural Afghan Lapis flat teadrops, aka pears, 16mm long x 10mm at widest point, on 16-inch strand. Only one available.
  • Lapis is a relatively soft stone so carving these shapes without damage is very difficult. It's rare to find strands in which every bead is perfectly drilled to hang straight as these do.
  • I love these for earrings, stunning and lightweight with a gold or silver accent
  • Brilliant blue lapis gets its name from Arabic and Latin for “blue stone”
  • The finest royal blue Lapis comes from the West Hindu Kush mountains of Afghanistan. It's flecked with gold Pyrite, which shows it’s natural and not dyed.
  • Lower grades, with white calcite rather than pyrite, are found in Chile and Russia. These stones may also be dyed to disguise the white flecks. All my Lapis is natural, unless specified otherwise.
  • Beloved from ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia to Greece and Rome, Lapis was used it as a reward for bravery. It was also considered to be a stone of royalty in ancient Sumer and China, and later in Russia as well as other European countries.
  • During the Renaissance in Europe, Lapis was used as pigment to produce the rare and expensive “aquamarine” used in many famous paintings
  • It’s the birthstone for Virgo and December
  • Metaphysical: Lapis is known as the stone for spiritual seekers, and students.
  • Buddhists recommend Lapis for fostering inner peace and freedom from negative thoughts. For both its color and its energy, Lapis is one of my personal favorites.
