Hematite Round 8mm
GMS-55
- Hematite round beads 8mm on a 14-inch strand
- When polished this stone was used as an early mirror, but when cut very thin it shows up as red, hence the origin of the name, Greek for blood.
- Although know since Babylonian times, Hematite was only popular during the Middle Ages, and later during the Victorian Age as mourning jewelry.
- Today it's made into highly polished beads in a variety of shapes and sometimes also magnetized.
