A small handful of powderglass beads from the 1970s and 1980s when vertical lines started being added to horizontal lines.
The latter are formed by simply layering different colors of glass into the mold
Vertical lines required another step: a thin, small twig or toothpick would be inserted around the edges of the mold. It would push some of the original glass out of the way. Then a different color of glass was carefully sifted into the small holes. When the beads were fused these would appear as vertical stripes
I call these Level 2 powderglass beads and I did witness this process being done in the early 1970s in Ghana. Spots also started appearing on powderglass beads at this time, but I didn't see that being done. I can only guess that small bits of a different color were place near the edges of the molds as they were being filled with single color glass.
