Small Vintage 1970s Ghanaian brass lost wax cast mask pendant
Pendant is 2 inches long including loop. These can be polished.
Lost wax designs are created in wax first, the item is then covered with clay.
The clay mold is heated and the wax runs out through openings left for that purpose. Then molten brass is poured in. After it's cooled the mold is broken and the bead or pendants is then cleaned and polished. Each is one of a kind.
In this complicated process, some flaws are inevitable, we choose to recognize them as proof the item isn't a casting mass produced by machines.
This one was collected in Ghana by Joyce Diamanti, bead writer and editor.
