Matched set of 6 round 12-14mm antique Venetian lampworked beads
Black glass decorated with two bands of aventurine (copper filings in clear glass) and a raised wavy amber line
Aventurine glass was discovered by accident in Venice during the 15th century, hence the name which comes form the French for "chance". It is a mixture of clear glass with inclusions of particles of mostly copper, sometimes with gold or other metals
All beads in excellent condition, which is very rare for beads of this type with raised decoration
Holes about 2mm
Made in Venice, Italy mid-1800s to early 1900s for the African trade
From my personal collection started in west Africa in the early 1970s
