  • The Baoule people of the Ivory Coast are known for their art and their farming
  • The Baoule are related to the Akan people of Ghana, who also make brass beads, but the Baoule have long had the reputation for doing more detailed work and traditionally plated their brass beads with gold
  • The beads is first made in wax. The wax is covered by clay, the clay is heated and the wax runs out through openings left for that purpose. Molten recycled metal is poured in. After cooling, the clay mold is broken open and each unique bead is removed, cleaned and gold plated.
