Vintage Afghan lapis 2-3mm micro-beads in multi-strand necklaces with turquoise, carnelian, coral, serpentine rondelles, tiny brass beads and brass S-hook clasp
The labor to make these beads is almost unimaginable, but I've met, and seen the guys who make them at work, under very primitive conditions. For example their drill was powered by a man peddling bicycle!
These beads were commissioned by an archeologist interested in learning how similar beads were made in ancient India and Pakistan, and simultaneously hoping to damage the market for similar-looking ancient beads looted from archeological sites.
