Lapis gets its name from Arabic and Latin for “blue stone”
Afghanistan has long been a great source of lapis, which Turkoman jewelers used along with the more traditional carnelian.
Beloved from ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia to Greece and Rome, Lapis was used it as a reward for bravery. It was also considered to be a stone of royalty in ancient Sumer, China, and later in Russia as well as other European countries.
It’s the birthstone for Virgo and December
Metaphysical: Lapis is known as the stone for spiritual seekers, and students.
Buddhists recommend Lapis for fostering inner peace and freedom from negative thoughts. For both its color and its energy, Lapis is one of my personal favorites and I like to use it with my Turkoman beads and pendants
