Stunning, vintage, Guatemalan Jadeite, face pendant by a master carver.
This is a stand alone work of art, but if you want to make jewelry out of it, there are several options for stringing it: from the top center, or there are also place to attach cords on either side above the ears.
Sadly I don't remember the carver's name but he was a venerable old man, internationally known, and highly respected, when I met him. I was referred to him by George Stuart, National Geographic's Guatemala expert, before my trip.
I bought this in Guatemala around 1983 when my sister, on leave from working on an archeological dig in Honduras and I, on vacation from National Geographic, traveled around the country together.
This was by far, the most expensive thing I bought on the whole trip, and has been hidden in my stash of beads for my Dictionary of Beads project for a couple of decades. If finally decided I might be able to part with it.
My photography does not do it justice and I will keep trying...The profile is the best view, but I have to figure out how to support it in that position...
