Made in Nepal by Tibetan refugees
Although they originated in Tibet, gau are popular among all races and religions in the Himalayan area. The harsh environment and climate seem to require protection, which is believed to come from the mantras, prayers, or healing potions carried in these boxes.
If you decide to remove the back from this box do it carefully so as not to damage the perfect seal and afterwards consider securing it with string the traditional way. See second image for ASF-173
