It grows in the semi-desert areas of Mali in West Africa, women collect the soft resin at certain times of year, roll it into rough bead shapes and string it.
When it's fresh it can have a warm slightly spicy scent, but most of the bead that reach the US have already lost it, altho some aroma may be released when beads warm up when worn on the body
They are lightweight and attractive altho best used in bunches
