I've been inspired by ancient pre-Columbian gold since my days in Peru in the early 1980s and was excited to recently discover a source of high quality reproductions. Crystal and carnelian were used in ancient Columbia, and jade was highly valued throughout Central America.
Here I'm playing with these materials, especially the discs of Guatemalan jadeite from the workshop of Jay and Mary Lou Ridinger, discoverers in 1974 of the source of ancient Maya jade. It had been lost since the Spanish conquest, because the conquistadores were blinded to its value as they lusted after gold and emeralds. 28 inches long including 3 inch composite pendant
