Floracita, five strands of bright flowers on purple, longest strand 28 inches with easy to use T-clasp
This little flower necklace is always a favorite. Light and bright, it evokes happy feelings of spring and comes to you form Guatemala, called "the land of eternal spring" for its perfect year-round climate
Like all the Guatemalan beadwork, it's handmade by indigenous Maya women. The glass seed beads are top quality Czech and the cord is a sturdy synthetic.
Beadwork is a relatively new art form in Guatemala, having arrived in the 1970s, but with centuries of experience weaving and combining colors in their culture, Maya women took to it with enthusiasm.
Today it provides good incomes for talented and hardworking women who, having been denied schooling for various reasons, have few other options.
I've been working with them through my fair trade wholesale business, finding museum store, and other markets, for their work since 2012
