These, probably Barbie inspired, earrings are the latest combos of Czech glass seed beads and Guatemalan artistry.
There are no movie theaters in the area where these are made, but there are cell phones, and there are Barbies. My friend Kathleen, who travelled with me to Guatemala (when we shopped there for Beadazzled) scoured Maryland Goodwill locations for Barbies in good condition before the trips. She took the dolls to a teenager who made traditional Guatemalan outfits for them and sold the dolls to tourists. Entrepreneurial spirit runs deep and wide in Guatemala, which along with the natural beauty and friendly people, explains why I feel so at home there.
