The core bead has been wound with overlapping tiny stringers of molten glass and then "fumed" to create the otherworldly colors.
As I understand it fuming involves incinerating small amounts of precious metals like silver (makes yellow) and gold (makes pink) so that the vapors from the burning metal are transferred to the surface of the bead creating the iridescent colors.
I regret not having the artists's names for many of the beads I'm posting this month. If you recognize your beads, or the artist of any of the beads you see here, please let me know! Include the bead's alpha-numeric code to be sure I know which one you are referencing. If you think I should adjust the price, I'm open to that too.
