It's taken a couple of years, but I finally found the source, and can't wait to start playing with them myself! Check out the other shapes and sizes too.
Nobody has been able to tell me what the gold colored "frame" is made of, but after breaking one bead, I'd say its a type of very durable and thick enamel like super nail polish. It doesn't flake off, I had to take a hammer to it to break it.
