Labradorite is named after the Labrador Peninsula in Canada where it was first found in 1770, although it didn't become widely popular until centuries later.
Than and now it's prized for its "fire" (aka labradorescense) which gives of intermittent flashes of blue, green, gold or other colors depending on the light, although these are hard to see on tiny facets.
It's also found in Canada, Madagascar, Mexico, Russia and the USA
