Garnet diamond shape beads drilled through the long dimension on 15-inch strands
Hand cut, drilled and polished in India
The word garnet comes from the latin for pomegranate because the fruit's seeds resemble the stone. That's especially true for these glowing 4mm round beads
Garnets are found in many places and were popular among the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans.
They are a popular birthstone for January.
In early European traditions garnets were said to support faith and fidelity while helping to banish sadness. Some believed it could also protect wearers from wounds and bleeding.
Metaphysical writers today claim it can be helpful for manifesting "all the products of the creative imagination" into the physical world, as well as grounding your dreams and desires in the everyday world. Others say it carries the energy of prosperity and enjoyment of worldly pleasures.
These beads are from the collection of Joyce Diamanti, world traveler, bead researcher, writer, editor and educator, who collected them in India in the 1980s
