Although it covers the basics this isn't the best book for a raw beginner, but it's a an good choise for those wanting to take the next step and make some of the 30+ projects depicted.
They teach you how to use a variety of techniques such as making faux wood or gemstones and other materials (the wood, bone and ivory examples are better than some of the stones) mosaic canes, and using applique, stamping and other techniques to create distinctive effects
