Beads and Beadwork of East and South Africa by Margaret Carey
This book is part of the well-respected British Shire Ethnography Series designed for students and interested lay people. These were a boon to those of hunting for info before the advent of Bead Societies, Conferences, periodicals and newer books. It covers a brief history of the early bead trade from Europe to Africa and the ways they were used in East and Southern Africa, where adornment mostly involved seed bead rather than the larger beads favored in West Africa.
