Thai silver, large cylinders covered with interwoven strips of fine silver in a traditional basketweave patters.
These stunning focal beads also have quite large holes (2mm or more) giving you even more options for ways to use them.
They are heavy, which also raises the price, but just one could enliven a long design with a tassel extending from it.
Both Thailand and Indonesia have exquisite bead and fiber traditions and I love it even more when they overlap!
Our Thai silver (aka Hill Tribe) is made by Karen smiths and other ethnic groups living in villages in the highlands of the Golden Triangle near Chiang Mai. In addition to the beautiful soft glow of the fine silver, the work is meticulous, often featuring detailed stamped or etched designs in traditional, as well as contemporary, shapes and patterns.
Finer silver tarnishes less than sterling, but adding a polishing cloth to your silver purchases is always a good idea. Regular gentle rubbing will keep the silver from needing to be cleaned with harsh chemicals.
