The beads are made of clay, painted, embellished with gold leaf and finally blessed by the monks who made them to support their temples
To avoid the gold leaf wearing off with heavy use I recommend spraying or painting these with a clear top coat from the art supply store. The spray will also brighten the and deepen the colors a bit.
