Unclasped, this bold collar fits over the head. Only one available
It's composed of larger than average (nearly size 6) “royal” mustard color glass seed beads, with accents of other high status beads, including rounded and cylindrical cobalt, short brown tubes, and a very rare lighter blue glass. Center section of translucent amber seed beads, slightly smaller than the rest.
Perfectly symmetrical sections, typical of Naga jewelry, unusually not separated by, but only ended only with spacer bars of bone from the highly valued, semi-domesticated mithun, an ox-like animal indigenous to Nagaland. Unclasped, fits over the head.
Traditionally worn by women of the chief’s clan during festivals, ceremonies and special occasions especially. Much more rare than belts of similar beads.
Collected in the 1980s in Nagaland
