Elephant all dressed up for a festival or parade! It reminds me of a morning I was wandering around Kathmandu just after dawn looking at the sun rise over the temples and the architecture in the modest neighborhood where we were staying. It was quiet, the narrow dirt streets deserted, but suddenly an elephant came around the corner. It was still covered in bright paint from whatever festival it had been in the day before. There were no humans in sight, smoke was just staring to rise from some of the houses, a few birds were chirping.
More familiar with African elephants, which generally don't like people much, I just stood quietly in a doorway hardly breathing, amazed at what I was seeing. The elephant either didn't see me, or ignored me, and just walked by slowly on remarkably quiet feet, stirring up a little dust with each step. It seemed to know where it was going, probably in search of breakfast or a bath, and maybe it made this trip regularly on it's own, but for me it remains a favorite travel memory.
