Vintage Afghan lapis necklace of 1mm micro-beads with 17 lapis arrow, or spear tip shape pendants interspersed with tiny carnelian and brass beads
The labor to make the micro beads is almost unimaginable, but I've met, and seen the guys who make them at work, under very primitive conditions. For example their drill was powered by a man peddling bicycle!
These beads were commissioned by an archeologist interested in learning how similar beads were made in ancient India and Pakistan, and simultaneously hoping to damage the market for similar-looking ancient beads looted from archeological sites.
