To me this is probably the most interesting Watermelon strand I've seen in a long time, apparently the ends have been worn flush and the stripes have been mostly worn away over generations of continuous use.
Traces of the stripes look interesting too, a mix of red/white/blue stripes and green and white stripes originally decorated these beads
I've seen African beads ground down to expose more yellow, the color of gold, much beloved especially in Ghana. But this is not that because the rough grinding marks are missing, These beads are super smooth.
These antique, oval drawn beads are called Watermelon beads because of they resemble a green version which has alternating light and dark stripes like a real watermelon.
