Molded interlocking beads resembling snake vertabrae, turquoise color, 9mm diameter on 21-inch strand in perfect condition - no mismatched or broken beads
It seems these were made in both Bohemia (currently Czech Republic) and in France during the late 1800s and early 1900s. That would explain why the patterns are slightly different and the different colors don't always work well together.
The Czech beadmakers probably came first with these beads. Intrepid agends or the Czech glass beadmaking companies stravel widely thorughout the world, but especially in West Africa searching out beads that could be imitated in glass to appeal to the various markets from Angola to Morocco. They were genius at presenting new colorful versions of traditional shapes and more.
