Yellow brads with red and blue/black stripes 6x5mm on 23-inch strand
Vertically striped beadmaking was an important step in discovering how to imitate valued striped Venetian trade beads by Krobo beadmakers
Here's the laborious process: sift a single color of glass into the mold, then push a very fine reed or wire into the powder at evenly spaced intervals around the edges of the mold. This compresses some of the original glass away from the edge, leaving a tiny channel when the reed was removed. Into this channel different colors of glass are funneled. The precision and control required, especially for the small beads on this strand, is amazing.
