In the 1980s commercial pigments started showing up in Krobo powder glass beads, but the flecks of red visible in these beads make me think these might still be made of recycled ground up glass. A rare red bottle or possibly red beads could have been the source of the color. The shape and color were both unusual and didn't last long.
