These are a rare failed attempt, most likely by Bohemian (now the Czech Republic) beadmakers, to get in on the world wide Chevron craze during the 1800s. Apparently there were several failed attempts by different European bead centers. Nobody could satisfactorily recreate the chevron's magic.
These examples were made of a "porcelain-like" glass and painted.
In my early days in the bead business I used to give away to kids, various kinds of beads that I recognized as being fakes of various kinds. Only later did I realize how collectible early fakes can be for documenting the evolution of bead types, their popularity and value through the ages, and various attempts to replicate them.
